Discovering Charity Shops....

Is it just me or is shopping in Charity shops suddenly a current trend? I decided today to check out the fad for myself. Personally without sounding offensive I have always been one to avoid charity shops for clothing as I find the smell of mothballs overwhelming and it puts me off everytime! However, I am willing to shop on Ebay and gumtree so really what's the difference. So taking hold of my new thrifty attitude and using my TK Maxx rummaging skills I decided to give it a try, and who better to take with me than a Charity shop veteran.... my Nanna!

Venturing into Staines, Middlesex we headed straight for a Charity  which holds close to my partners families hearts, British Heart Foundation. I must say I was shocked when I walked into this large, well spaced, neatly organised and deodorised charity shop, so far so good. So the one great thing about this charity shop is that is actually organised by clothing size as opposed to colour which I find miles better to navigate. Looking at my very first rack I was delighted when I found an as new H & M long white top with black bead embellished shoulder pads! My pictures do these tops no justice so after a good hot wash I will pop them on and take better ones!

Cost = £2.99!

So finding a top within 2 minutes of being in the store gave me that little rush you get when you find a top in your favourite store and spurred me on to blitz through the rest of the racks. Two more racks down and I find yet another top which I am 99.9% sure has never been worn before as it is immaculate!! Its a gorgeous little grey glitter tank top from River Island, with a sequin butterfly on the front and bow on the back.

Cost- £4.99!

My final little find of the day was a cool little shabby chic sign which my bestie will say describes me to a T! Plus it looks fab on my new little dressing table and a steal at £2.99!

So my first experience of charity shop shopping was great. A total spend of £10.97! I can definitely see why people find it fun and addictive! Give it a go, yes its great to buy a brand new top in H&M or TopShop but why not buy it next-to-new its more than half the price, is as good as new after a hot wash and donates to charities! How much can you really afford to spend on new clothes anyway??!!

My top tips for charity shop shopping:
  • Be open minded
  • Hunt through all sizes, not all sizes 10's are put back on the right racks
  • Try things on! You can't change it if it doesn't fit
  • If you like it buy it as it may not be there tomorrow!
  • If its priced too high don't be afraid to walk out! What'd priced as £25 in one shop may only be £5 in another!
Try it..... you know you want to!!
